Castle of Ménessaire
Originally a 12th-century fortified house, Ménessaire Castle underwent a number of alterations during the 15th and 17th centuries, particularly following widespread looting and major fires.
Thanks to the De Fussey family (1578–1772), the château underwent restoration and refurbishment work that can still be seen today. For example, the Great Hall, with its French-style ceiling and unique tiled floor, is adorned with painted medallion portraits, coats of arms, painted friezes, hunting trophies and period furniture.
On 19 December 1973, the Château de Ménessaire was listed as a Historic Monument, enabling numerous restoration projects, including the complete refurbishment of the roofs with glazed Burgundy tiles.
Today, the estate offers guest rooms and hosts receptions. It is open to visitors during the European Heritage Days on the third weekend of September.
